Who is Nite Owl Mandy? I am a 72 year old mother of five
daughters, 17 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren. My poetry has been published in many small presses and I was a frequent contributer to my old neighborhood newspaper "The Fishtown Star", once winning Poem of the Month. Over the years I have contributed about forty poems. Currently I write
for Science of Soul Magazine in India. We write essays that combine science, spirituality and philosophy. I have contributed forty-three essays to the magazine. If you wish to read them, go to the site and type in Dolores Tansey http://www.scienceofsoul.com/

Presently I am looking for the position of "Poetry
Editor" for any newspaper in the country. I will choose to work at home, having the poems emailed to me and sending the best to the newspaper who hires me. Included in my ebooks are two books of poetry.

Valentines of Yesterday
 
There's a someone's sweetheart
far across a foreign sea
a real and human sweetheart
just like you and me.
 
I don't know his name
but there's more than one.
He's someone's next of kin
he's even someone's son'
 
His religion doesn't matter,
his color or his race.
He's so long away from home
he's yesterday's forgotten face.
 
 
So on February fourteenth
a prayer will do just fine
cause there's a POW somewhere
who is someone's special

This poem has a second ending, I shall tell you now.  My daughter and I found an elderly woman wandering around the neighborhood.  My daughter said, You take her in the house and I'll see if I can find out where she lives.  Before my daughter left, she asked the lady if she would empty her coat pockets to see if there was any identification.  In her pocket was a brush and this poem.  The poem had been printed in my neighborhood newspaper two years prior.  We asked her why she carried it and she said, "I go to the American Legion Club and I always carry it with me."  Eventually we found her home.  She lived with her daughter and they had just moved, so the lady was lost.  This is a true story, so you never know where your words will take you whether written or spoken.
